It’s fair week and back to school is just around the corner. August expenses can add up quick. Here are 6 ways to save money right now.

Review your car insurance.
If you can’t get a lower rate, shop around and compare your options. You may be surprised how much you can save for the same amount of coverage.

You should be checking your insurance rates every so often. Consider how much you drive. If you don’t drive a lot of miles, call your insurance to see if you can get a lower rate.

Adjust your cell phone plan.
Although it feels like a cell phone is a bit of a necessity these days, you still have some options. Find out how much data you are using. If you can, consider adjusting your plan to a lower data plan. If you have a monthly payment plan that includes paying for the phone, try to get by with the phone you have for a while instead of using the upgrade.

Cell phone plans can add up in a hurry if you have all the bells and whistles. It is amazing how much this expense can eat into your budget in a hurry.

Pantry and freezer challenge.
Take a week off from grocery shopping – other than a few staples. Use the items that are already in your kitchen. Do an inventory. Make a list of the meals you could make with the items you have. This will cut your grocery bill down for the month, using things you already have!

Check your freezer and your pantry. What do you have stock pilled that you can pull out and utilize for meals?

Sell something.
Go through the closets and sell the items you no longer need. Not only does it get them out of your way, it adds a few dollars to your budget!

Cut Cable.
Game of Thrones, Dexter, The Sopranos, Deadwood. They all sound like a very good reason to want to keep cable, but is the cost worth it? It is a decent sized expense each month. Consider cutting the cord and look at other television options such as streaming or broadcast networks.

Cancel recurring subscriptions.
You might not even notice that you’re being charged monthly or quarterly for expenses you don’t use anymore.

If you don’t know, it’s time to dig into your statements and take a look. Look for things like streaming services, newspapers, gym memberships, pest control, delivery, magazines or yard services. If you don’t use them, cancel the subscription.

These couple simple steps cannot only help you save money this month, but month after month.
